As the third largest cultural group in British Columbia, with approximately 174,000 people across the province, and nearly one million across Canada,
Filipinos are also among the largest incoming immigrant populations in the country.
With a growing population, Filipinos are highly represented in frontline work, including healthcare, food service, and domestic work. We also have the highest labour force participation among all Canadians. Our presence spans healthcare, education, the arts, food, and public service, yet these contributions often go unrecognized in planning and decision-making.
Because we are underserved, it can feel as though our voices don’t matter.
Even with our deep roots and ongoing contributions, the community still lacks permanent spaces, culturally relevant services, and meaningful platforms to share our needs. Too often, decisions are made without consulting the people they affect, leaving the Filipino community with little say in shaping what truly matters to us.
Nothing for us, without us.
Our voices deserve to be heard. Any programs, services, or spaces meant to serve the community must be informed by the people who live it, work in it, and contribute to it every day. Inclusion isn’t optional — it’s essential.
Data and Engagement Must Guide Solutions: Filipino BC’s What We Heard Report, the largest survey of Filipinos in BC, shows clearly what the community needs: spaces, programs, and services that reflect our identity and address real gaps. The findings emphasize that solutions must be backed by data and informed by ongoing engagement with the community itself.
The community deserves to be heard
Every voice matters. Meaningful programs, spaces and services can only succeed if they are built on what the community actually says it needs.
Being recognized, consulted, and included is not a privilege — it is a right for a community that has long contributed and continues to shape British Columbia in vital ways.
Listen to the community, and read Filipino BC’s What We Heard Report to understand what our people are calling for and how solutions can truly reflect our needs.
