BC Greens Commit to Funding Partnership for Filipino Community & Cultural Centre
OCTOBER 9, 2026
On September 23, 2026, we wrote to all provincial parties asking them to make a clear commitment to fund and advance the Filipino Community & Cultural Centre.
Today, the BC Greens have committed to making the province a capital funding partner and including the provincial share in Budget 2027, should the project receive federal support through the Build Communities Strong Fund.
The Centre has been years in the making, shaped by the needs and vision of our community. We’re sharing the BC NDP’s letter so you can read their commitment and learn more about what they’ve proposed.
Letter to Filipino BC from the Green Party
To Kristina Corpin-Moser & RJ Aquino
Filipino BC
Thank you for your letter of 23 September 2026, seeking the support of the BC Greens for the Filipino Community & Cultural Centre. Thank you for all of the work that you’ve done to make this happen, and for providing provincial parties with such concrete solutions to partner with you on. We recognise the work that this takes, and congratulate the whole team at Filipino BC for all of your efforts.
I can confirm that the BC Greens support the development of the Filipino Community and Cultural Centre. This is a project that builds community and connection, and recognises the Filipino community as a core part of the fabric of BC. If we are in a position to do so, following the 2026 provincial election, the BC Greens will commit the province to working with the federal government as a capital funding partner - should the project receive support through the Build Communities Strong Fund. We will include funding for the provincial government’s share in the 2027 Budget, and direct responsible ministers to work with Filipino BC and the Filipino community on the advancement of the project.
The vision that Filipino BC has set out - for a community and cultural centre that provides connection with community, affordable housing, recreation and opportunities for young people and spaces for sharing food and connection represents the best of community-led development.
We wish you all of the best in your work to bring this endeavour to life, and will stand beside you however we can to make this happen.
All the very best,
Mike
BC Greens
We’re grateful to the BC Greens for making this commitment toward the Filipino Cultural Centre and for recognizing the significant contributions and impact of the Filipino community, as well as the importance of having a permanent home for our community. This project has been more than three years in the making, shaped by the voices, work, advocacy, and support of so many people across our community.
As we hear from the other provincial parties in response to our September 23 letter, we’ll keep you updated on their commitments and what they are proposing for the Centre. Thank you to everyone who has continued to believe in this vision, speak up for it, and help move it forward — we’re building this together.
