The Vancouver Police Department has confirmed that 11 people lost their lives in the tragedy, their ages range from five to 65-years-old. Several people are still in hospital. Filipino BC has been in touch with victims and their families, witnesses and others impacted by last week’s event to respond to their immediate needs and support their recovery.
We know that many organizations, businesses and individuals have stepped up during this critical time to support our communities. For years, they’ve been serving the needs of Filipinos and our extended community with care and commitment. That’s why we established the KAPWA STRONG Fund, so charities, non-profits and community organizations can access the funds they need to help people heal, restore their well-being and uplift future generations.
We were overjoyed to see about 100 people show up at the temporary Resilience Centre, including several families with young children, groups of friends and loved ones. In some cases, this was the first time people left their homes following the tragic events that occurred on April 26, 2025. Jollibee generously donated meals so the community could rest, gather and access resources. The Foundry, which supports youth ages 12-24 and their families, has two counsellors on site who will attend the Centre for the rest of the week.
The Resilience Centre at Killarney Secondary School is open again:
Wednesday, May 7 from 5 PM to 8 PM
Friday, May 9 from 5 PM to 8 PM
Again, magpahinga (to rest/resting) and pop by for a warm meal and be in community. We hope to see you there!
