TOGETHER, WE ARE KAPWA STRONG

On April 26, 2025, an act of violence after the Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver claimed lives and left our community in mourning. Our hearts are with the families and all those affected as the Filipino Canadian community and beyond grieves this devastating loss.

Together, we are KAPWA STRONG, and proud to work with United Way, a well-established organization that will collect donations and distribute them through a grant system that will meet the current and emergency needs of our community and those impacted.

KAPWA is a term that describes the Filipino experience of community, interconnectedness and shared humanity. Many Filipinos practice this value through solidarity, and we’ve seen this value extended across the overwhelming support from our broader communities.

In this time of sorrow, we come together not just to mourn, but to care for one another, to support the victims and their families, and to begin the long process of healing—together.

Canadian Red Cross Launches Appeal for Communities Affected by Tragedy

Funds raised through this appeal will go directly towards responding to the immediate and emerging needs of individuals and families.

Where Your Donation Goes

United Way BC has generously committed to covering all administrative fees, which means that 100% of the donations will go directly to those most affected, exemplifying equity in action and enabling us to provide vital services without financial barriers.

Donations will go towards providing support such as counselling and covering funeral costs for victims. As more needs are identified donations will be funnelled accordingly through the grant process led by United Way.

Every contribution, no matter the size, is a gesture of KAPWA. Please consider making a donation today. Together, we are KAPWA STRONG.
