NDP Endorses Establishment of the Filipino Community and Cultural Centre

At a community gathering at Plato Filipino Restaurant in the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood of Vancouver, Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada’s Federal NDP, formally endorsed the Filipino Community & Cultural Centre in BC. The event was attended by representatives from Filipino BC, One Filipino Cooperative Society, One Housing Society, Filipino Canadian Cultural Heritage Society, United Filipino Canadian Association of BC, the Diversity and Inclusion Support Group, and Mabuhay House Society, along with many other community leaders.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the community groups and members whose long-standing advocacy has made this endorsement possible, highlighting the NDP’s commitment to recognizing the contributions of the Filipino Canadian community.

Announcement comes at a community event on Sunday, March 30th.

On March 24th, 2025, we reached out to the leaders of the three major parties, seeking their support for the Filipino Community & Cultural Centre. We are excited to share that on March 30th, Jagmeet Singh, the leader of Canada's New Democratic Party (NDP), officially endorsed the creation of the centre.

This important announcement was made at a community event at Plato Filipino Restaurant in Joyce-Collingwood, a neighborhood deeply cherished by many in our community and considered a home away from home by Filipino Canadians in BC.

The NDP leader's endorsement comes at a crucial time, as community leaders and advocates have been seeking government support and funding to bring the project to fruition. The announcement has been met with positive reactions from community members and local leaders, who see this as a pivotal step forward in their long-standing efforts to establish a dedicated space for cultural and community activities.

This endorsement not only amplifies the ongoing dialogue about multiculturalism and community support in Canadian politics but also marks a significant milestone for the Filipino community in their quest for increased recognition and support at the federal level.
