What to Expect for Lapu Lapu Day of Togetherness

Let’s Gather Together

Lapu Lapu Day of Togetherness invites the community to come together in the spirit of bayanihan — the Filipino value of caring for and supporting one another. This year’s smaller, more reflective format is intended to speak to a range of community needs, recognizing that everyone heals at their own pace.

Everyone is welcome to participate in whatever way feels right for them.

You Are Invited to the Table

To start the day, we are inviting the community to come together for a free breakfast at the table. Sharing a meal is more than nourishment—it’s a chance to heal, connect, and be present with one another. Food and healing go hand in hand, and being at the table with your community allows us to celebrate, reflect, and support one another.

More information on registration will be shared soon.

Reflection times

Our thoughts remain with the victims, their families and loved ones, as well as the witnesses, first responders, and all members of the community who were affected. We recognize that the impact of that day continues to be deeply felt, and that healing looks different for everyone.

The first part of the day will be dedicated to reflection and remembrance, providing a space for the community to come together to grieve, honour lives lost, and support one another in collective healing.

The Lapu Lapu Day of Togetherness has been intentionally designed to foster this environment of care, compassion, and solidarity. Throughout the day, the event will offer opportunities for communal reflection, remembrance, and healing, creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone in the community.

Kapwa Centre

The Kapwa Centre will be open throughout the day as a gentle space for connection, care, and rest. Rooted in the spirit of kapwa, the centre is intended to offer a welcoming environment where individuals, families, and community members can pause, gather, and support one another.

Inspired by community care and crisis response practices from around the world, the Kapwa Centre is designed to support healing and recovery after difficult experiences. It is a place where people can find emotional support, cultural grounding, and moments of comfort during overwhelming times.

Mental health and spiritual care resources will be available, alongside our regular programming. The Kapwa Centre will also host workshops and cultural healing activities, creating space for reflection, conversation, and simply being together in community.

Community Wellness

Connection and care are at the heart of this gathering. Partners who share a dedication to care, collective healing, and cultural connection will help create spaces where people can access support, workshops, and activities, connect with one another, and simply be together in community.

Community wellness looks different for everyone, so throughout the day there will be activities for all ages, allowing people to engage in ways that suit their individual needs. There will also be opportunities for creativity, movement, and hands-on experiences for children. These moments will offer learning, connection, and care for everyone in the community.

Movement

Movement is an important part of overall wellness and a wonderful way to connect with others in the community. In the afternoon, there will be opportunities to participate in sports activities, movement classes, and other active experiences designed for all ages and abilities.

These moments of movement provide more than just physical activity—they offer a chance to play, explore, and enjoy being present with others, whether through gentle stretching or guided classes. By engaging in movement together, participants can feel energized, connected, and supported, while simply enjoying the joy of being active in community.

Cultural Expression

Cultural expression remains an important part of Lapu Lapu Day of Togetherness. The event will include cultural performances, arts, storytelling, food, and interactive activities that highlight the diversity and richness of Filipino culture. These aspects will be reserved for the afternoon to keep the morning focused on reflection and remembrance.

Art & Storytelling

Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to engage with stories of healing through art and connection. Participants can listen, reflect, and connect with the experiences of others, fostering understanding and empathy while respecting each person’s autonomy in how their story is shared.

By creating spaces for art, storytelling, and shared reflection, the event encourages connection, compassion, and collective care within the community.

Safety

The team is committed to prioritizing safety, working closely with partners to ensure a secure and welcoming environment for everyone. On-site supports will be available to attendees throughout the event.

The Lapu Lapu Day of Togetherness is designed to be a safe space for healing, where all members of the community can feel supported, respected, and cared for.
