Let’s talk about the Support & Care Filipinos Deserve. A community this big deserves organizations built to serve it.
OCTOBER 1, 2026
WE'RE NOT A SMALL COMMUNITY.
More than 957,000 people in Canada identified as Filipinoin the 2021 Census.
Filipinos are also one of Canada's fastest-growing racialized populations, with the community quadrupling between 1996 and 2021.
Our community is growing.
Our stories are growing.
Our needs are growing, too.
WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN A COMMUNITY THAT CARES.
We show up for family.
We show up for our neighbours.
And we show up for the communities we call home.
Filipinos are highly represented in frontline work, including healthcare, food service and domestic work — caring for others every day, often behind the scenes.
We've built our communities through care, generosity and resilience. But sometimes...
Resilience becomes an expectation:
Just keep going.
Figure it out.
Take care of each other.
We believe our community deserves care and support, too.
WHO TAKES CARE OF THE PEOPLE WHO TAKE CARE OF EVERYONE ELSE?
Care can't run on resilience alone.
It shouldn't be the community's job to fill every gap left by public systems. But we do it anyway.
When public systems don't reach everyone, community organizations step in — connecting people to resources, creating spaces to belong, preserving culture and responding when communities need support.
The people who care for everyone else deserve support, too.
So for a Filipino community this large and growing…where is that support?
Out of more than 85,000 registered charities in Canada...
105 are Filipino-related charities.
That's about 0.12% of registered charities with a primary or significant focus on Filipino communities, culture, heritage, faith, or the Philippines.
In BC, there are more than 12,000 registered charities.
But only 16 Filipino-related charities.
Meanwhile, BC is home to more than 174,000 people who identify as Filipino.
Many of BC’s Filipino charities grew from faith, family and community — creating places to gather, worship, support one another and stay connected.
Of the 16 Filipino charities in BC, 14 are churches or religious organizations.
That leaves just 2 non-church charities — and only 1 has a mandate to serve the broader Filipino community and promote Filipino history and culture.
THAT’S FILIPINO BC.
WE'RE HONOURED TO BE CANADA'S LARGEST* FILIPINO COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL REGISTERED CHARITY.
But this isn't a milestone we celebrate alone.
It's a reflection of a community that believes Filipino stories, culture, history and community-building matter.
This is a win for our community.
And we think that's worth celebrating.
*Based on operating budget among registered Canadian charities with a Filipino community and cultural mandate.
A BIG COMMUNITY DESERVES BIG COMMUNITY SUPPORT.
We’re proud of what our community has built — and proud to be part of what comes next.
More spaces. More stories. More support. More opportunities to connect, celebrate and grow.
Because the goal was never just to be the biggest.
It’s to keep learning, keep growing and share what we learn along the way — building the knowledge, relationships and support systems that can help more Filipino organizations and communities grow, too.
There’s room for all of us to grow.
And there’s so much more we can build together.
COME BUILD WITH US.
There’s so much more ahead.
From building the Filipino Community & Cultural Centre in South Vancouver, to creating more spaces for our community, preserving our history and culture, supporting Filipino organizations, and making sure Filipino voices are part of the conversations that shape our future —
We’re building for the community we have today, and the community we’re becoming. We’re learning as we go. We’re sharing what we learn. And we want to keep growing together.
Join us on the journey. For community. For culture. For what comes next.
By Filipinos, for everyone.
