Filipino BC is officially a registered charity!

SEPTEMBER 25, 2026

Effective September 18, 2026, Filipino BC is officially a registered charity!

18 Months Later…it’s Official!

This milestone follows a rigorous 18-month process requiring us to demonstrate that Filipino BC has operated for charitable purposes since the beginning. Our application was supported by detailed governance, program and financial information, including our recently completed financial accounting work with MNP.

What does charitable status mean for Filipino BC and our community?

  • We can issue official charitable tax receipts for eligible donations.

  • We can access grants and funding opportunities available only to registered charities.

  • Donors, foundations and institutional partners have more ways to invest in Filipino-led community work.

  • We are better positioned to build long-term financial sustainability and expand the programs and services our community relies on.

  • We can create new collaborations among Filipino organizations, supporting growth and capacity building across the Filipino charitable and non-profit sector.

  • As one of only a small handful of Filipino organizations across Canada with charitable status, we can help open more doors for our community.

A New Status, The Same Commitment.

Charitable status also provides greater confidence in our organization. Becoming—and remaining—a registered charity requires a higher standard of accountability, good governance, financial transparency and regulatory compliance. Filipino BC is committed to meeting these responsibilities and being accountable to our donors, funders, partners and community.

More to Build Together!

See information below on how to request tax receipts for donations made in 2026. We appreciate the community’s patience as we restructure our systems and processes to support this exciting new chapter.

Most importantly, charitable status brings us one step closer to realizing our vision for a purpose-built Filipino Community & Cultural Centre in South Vancouver—a permanent home where our community can gather, celebrate, learn, access support and build for future generations.

Maraming salamat!

We are deeply grateful to our board, staff and community for the time, care and commitment that helped us reach this moment. This has been a long journey, and we could not have arrived here without you.

This milestone belongs to our entire community.

With gratitude and in kapwa,

Filipino BC

Did you donate directly to Filipino BC in 2026?

Now that Filipino BC is a registered charity, community members can request official donation receipts for eligible gifts made directly to Filipino BC during the 2026 calendar year.

To request a receipt, please complete our donation receipt request form.

The Canada Revenue Agency requires an official donation receipt to include:

  • The donor’s full legal name, including their middle initial

  • The donor’s complete mailing address

If the donation was made by a business or organization, please provide its full legal name and complete mailing address. A receipt can only be issued to the individual or organization that made the donation.

Our form will also ask for additional details—including your email address, the donation amount, approximate date and payment method—so we can locate and match your gift with Filipino BC’s financial records. Please provide as much information as possible.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • This process is only for donations made directly to Filipino BC.

  • If you donated through the United Way Kapwa Strong campaign, your receipt must be requested directly from United Way. Filipino BC cannot issue receipts for donations collected and processed by United Way.

  • Submitting the form does not automatically confirm that a gift is eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Each request must first be verified against our financial records and assessed under CRA requirements.

As we work through requests and update our administrative systems, processing may take some time. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition.

Thank you for supporting Filipino BC and investing in the future of our community.

With gratitude and in kapwa,

Filipino BC
