BC NDP to Invest $15 Million in Proposed Filipino Cultural Centre
OCTOBER 7, 2026
On September 23, 2026, we wrote to all provincial parties asking them to make a clear commitment to fund and advance the Filipino Community & Cultural Centre.
Today, David Eby and the BC NDP announced that they will invest $15 million in the proposed provincial Filipino cultural centre.
The Centre has been years in the making, shaped by the needs and vision of our community. We’re sharing the BC NDP’s letter so you can read their commitment and learn more about what they’ve proposed.
Eby to invest $15 million in proposed Filipino cultural centre
Centre will celebrate the diversity and strength of Filipino Canadian communities in B.C.
David Eby and the BC NDP will invest $15 million in the proposed provincial Filipino cultural centre, if re-elected. The centre will celebrate Filipino Canadians’ heritage and their many contributions to B.C.’s success.
“Filipino Canadians have a vibrant history in British Columbia, and a dedicated cultural centre is long overdue,” said David Eby, BC NDP leader. “We are proud to move forward in the spirit of ‘kapwa’ and make sure that this cultural centre captures the diversity, vibrancy and resiliency of the hundreds of thousands of Filipinos who call B.C. home.”
A BC NDP government, in partnership with the federal government, will work with local Filipino Canadian organizations and communities in B.C. on a dedicated cultural centre that is led by, supports, and responds to the needs of the Filipino Canadian community in B.C.
In 2024, the BC NDP government launched an engagement process that invited British Columbians, especially those of Filipino heritage, to share their vision for a provincial Filipino cultural centre. The 10-question survey received more than 1,200 survey responses.
Today’s commitment builds significantly on existing progress, bringing the community one step closer to the Filipino cultural centre promised by David Eby and the BC NDP.
