ABOUT US
Filipino BC is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the Filipino diaspora, celebrating our culture, collaborating with leaders and communities of colour to provide care, and working toward the creation of the Filipino Cultural and Community Centre.
As torchbearers, we keep our traditions alive while forging new paths forward. This goes beyond mere preservation; it's about uplifting every member of our community, especially those in need. Together, we can bring hope, strength, and unity that enriches our society and will resonate through the lives of future generations.

Meet Our Team
At Filipino BC, our team and board bring deep community roots, cross-sector expertise, and lived experience to everything we do. We work collaboratively with organizations and other communities to ensure integrity, innovation, and cultural responsiveness, guided by a shared vision and strong governance.
PILLARS OF WORK
-
Education & Information
Knowledge empowers communities. We create spaces—through workshops, resources, and storytelling—where Filipinos can learn about our history, rights, and opportunities. By sharing information rooted in our culture, we ensure all generations have the tools to strengthen their voices and choices.
-
Lobbying & Advocacy
We use our collective voice to influence change, from community boards to government halls. Guided by the lived experiences of Filipinos in Canada and the diaspora, we work with decision-makers to remove barriers, protect rights, and open doors for the future.
-
Campaigning & Political Action
We mobilize our community to act on issues that matter. From grassroots organizing to public campaigns, we unite people in strategic, inclusive efforts that drive change. Together, we turn solidarity into strength and visibility into action.
Why Are We Doing This Work?
Prior to Lapu Lapu Day, Filipino BC already had been working in the frontlines providing community programming to support racialized communities who are too often left to navigate complex, unresponsive systems on their own.
We are doing this work because we know our community—intimately, deeply, and with care.
The events of April 26 only deepened these long-standing gaps. The crisis disproportionately impacted Filipino, Latino, and other communities of colour—many of whom continue to echo the same concerns: they were not seen, not heard, and not adequately supported. These are not new problems.
There is a dire need for an ecosystem of care grounded in cultural understanding, trauma-informed practices, and community trust. Many community leaders and organizations have long been building this kind of support. Filipino BC is committed to standing with them to strengthen and sustain these culturally rooted systems together.
Our Values
-
We value the wisdom of our elders and the stories of our past, knowing they guide the path forward. We empower and encourage the next generation to lead with confidence while staying rooted in our shared heritage. We welcome Filipinos from all walks of life—those born and raised in Canada, those who have immigrated, and those with diverse experiences in the diaspora—because we know every story is Filipino enough.
-
The Filipino community is rich with diversity, shaped by many cultures and experiences. We also recognize that our work is connected to the broader struggles and successes of other communities of colour. We rise by rising together—building genuine partnerships, working alongside non-Filipino allies, and standing in solidarity with those who share our vision for justice and equity. At the heart of this work, we ensure that Filipinos are not only present but leading, representing our voices in decision-making spaces, and contributing to collective change that benefits everyone.
-
We acknowledge that we live and work on the unceded territories of Indigenous Peoples here on Turtle Island (Canada) and commit ourselves to the ongoing work of truth and reconciliation. This means listening to Indigenous voices, learning from their histories, and supporting actions that uphold justice and sovereignty. We also recognize and honour the Indigenous histories and communities of the Philippines, acknowledging that our own identity is tied to lands, cultures, and peoples who came long before us. Reconciliation is not a single act but a lifelong responsibility—to walk with humility, build respectful relationships, and ensure that both here and in the Philippines, the stories of Indigenous Peoples are remembered, valued, and protected.
