Locals Welcome is a new CBC docuseries celebrating the lesser known food places that make up the fabric of Canada’s rich and diverse communities. Hosted by food writer Suresh Doss, Locals Welcome takes food down off the pedestal and puts it back where it belongs: in a take out container. Outside a strip mall. On the hood of a parked car. The TV series marries Anthony Bourdain’s love of food and culture, with Canadians’ love of being introduced to exciting new dishes and cuisines. All in our own backyard.

While the episode focuses on Toronto, there are many parallels with our Filipino community here in Vancouver — particularly in how we build food spaces rooted in care, culture, and community.
