Liberal Party Pledges Support for Filipino Community & Cultural Centre in BC

We are thrilled to share a momentous update with our community: MPs Taleeb Noormohamed, Rechie Valdez, and Prime Minister Mark Carney have formally expressed their support for the Filipino Community & Cultural Centre. This significant endorsement underscores the vital role our community plays in enriching British Columbia and highlights the importance of the ‘Weaving Our Voices, Our Story, Our Community: What We Heard Report.’ The report, which outlines the unique challenges and needs of Filipino Canadians, serves as a crucial framework for the Centre’s development. Our vision for the Centre is to create a space that not only preserves and celebrates our rich cultural heritage but also serves as a beacon for education, cultural exchange, and community collaboration. We look forward to working with these leaders to transform this vision into a reality that will benefit not just our community but all of BC.

Here is the letter that was sent to Filipino BC:

Dear RJ Aquino and Kristina Corpin-Moser,

In Budget 2024, our government committed to being a funding partner for the Filipino Community and Cultural Centre, a designated space where the Filipino community can come together to celebrate and honour their rich culture and heritage. I am dedicated to working alongside Prime Minister Carney and our government to ensure this commitment is fully realized, from securing a location to the successful completion of the centre.

The Filipino community is a vital and integral part of Vancouver, having made immeasurable contributions to Vancouver’s prosperity and growth. Their resilience and dedication, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, played a crucial role in supporting our healthcare system. Filipino Canadians have enriched our country, and their impact continues to shape the fabric of our society.

I pledge to work with my colleagues to address the important issues raised in the Weaving Our Voices, Our Story, Our Community: What We Heard Report. This pivotal document provides critical insights into the lived experiences of Filipino Canadians, helping us understand their unique challenges and opportunities. Having had the privilege of reading and attending the presentation of this report, I fully recognize its significance and the need for its official acknowledgment.

Rest assured, I will continue to build on our meaningful partnerships with Filipino Canadian organizations and ensure our government continues to listen to, collaborate with, and support this vibrant community. I look forward to having the opportunity to meet and sit down with you at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Taleeb Noormohamed
