Filipino BC Statement on meeting with City of Vancouver
After a fulsome and productive meeting on Monday, Filipino BC is confident and reassured that the City of Vancouver is committed to prioritizing the interests of victims and their families and will take thoughtful and deliberate action to address their concerns. We are encouraged by the City’s willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue and take deliberate, compassionate steps in response to feedback and concerns.
The City has assured us that it will notify victims and families of plans for a benefit concert, and use their feedback to inform the timing and other aspects of the event. At this time, no date or time for such an event has been determined.
Filipino BC remains steadfast in our commitment to victim-centered and trauma-informed practices. We believe that a benefit concert, with the guidance and input from those most deeply affected, has the potential to support their recovery and encourage collective healing across the community.
We thank Mayor Ken Sim for listening and holding the same value of ensuring that the victims and their families are consulted and respected throughout this process. We recognize the mayor and council want to do right by the victims and the greater community and we look forward to continued meaningful engagement with the City of Vancouver.
