Filipino BC launches Care Team
Since the tragedy of April 26, 2025, most of our work has focused on supporting families who lost loved ones and people who were injured and hospitalized. In the weeks that followed, we worked alongside institutions, nonprofits and community leaders to coordinate care and build a safe space for collective healing and reach through the Kapwa Centre for Community Resilience.
We are now offering individual support to the wider community that’s been affected.
Filipino BC has long supported migrant workers and international students through programs like Kusina. In response to the recent tragedy and current crisis, we expanded this work by launching our Care Team to better support those impacted. Just like other social service agencies, we begin with a simple intake process to undersand your needs. To make this process easy and low-barrier, simply email: care@filipinobc.com
You’ll receive a link to a short form, and one of our care workers will reach out within 48 hours to continue the intake process and understand your needs.
Support can include, but is not limited to:
Systems Navigation: It can be overwhelming searching for the right resources and trying to find out what you qualify for and what supports best suit your needs. Our Care Team is here to help you sort through these resources.
Mental Health: Free counselling services and healing circle events have been made available through the KAPWA STRONG Fund from South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, Multicultural Family Services, Kathara Society, Sher Vancouver and others.
Food Security: Support to apply for food security funds, connecting with programs providing meal delivery services and gift cards for groceries.
Other Individual Needs: Support will look different based on individual needs and how people were impacted by the tragedy. Let us know more about how we can support your recovery.
Our case workers are available to speak English, Filipino and Spanish.
Recovery and healing will take time, but it’s not something you have to go through alone. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help.
