Trigger Warning: Update on case and mention of the accused  Community Update: Additional charges laid

This morning, the BC Prosecution Service approved three more charges against Kai-Ji Adam Lo, after reviewing evidence submitted by the Vancouver Police Department. Lo now faces 11 counts of second-degree murder in relation to the tragic events that occurred on April 26, 2025.

This provides some answers for community members who were waiting for the additional charges to be laid, but we are a long way from justice. On Wednesday, July 23, a two-day mental health hearing will begin to assess whether Lo is fit to stand trial. It could be weeks before the judge delivers that decision.

Filipino BC is balancing the need to update our community while providing support and resources, and we understand that mentions of this person can be retraumatizing. In preparation of this week’s court hearing, Filipino BC has scheduled two Kapwa Centre events.

On Friday, July 25, we are holding a Virtual Community Debrief and Support Circle from 6 - 8 PM. The Disaster Psychosocial Support Team (DPS) from Provincial Health Services Authority will provide support and lead with care. Participants can find the registration here.

DPS will also be available in-person at a second Kapwa Centre on Saturday, July 26, from 6 - 9 PM at the Sunset Community Centre. Join us for a warm, supportive space where you can be in community, share a nourishing meal, and connect with culturally responsive mental health support, including one-on-one conversations and access to trauma-informed resources.

We are also reminding community members that individual support is available through Filipino BC’s Care Team. Our case managers are ready to support you, whether you were directly impacted or are affected by the tragedy in any other way. Please email care@filipinobc.com to start the intake process now.

Lastly, we want to recognize the hard work that many individuals have put into their personal recovery. It’s a sign of strength to recognize that you are struggling and need support. Please remember that you are not alone and we are here for you.
